Thank you to our sponsors
We would really like to thank our sponsors and supporters for helping us create this event:
The Dili International School Staff and Administrators.
The House of KP who provided us with a home away from home and plenty of entertainment.
The Bali Hotels Association
Sunrise School Bali
The Bali International School
Anteater Waste Disposal for the donation of equipment to assist with our clean up.
Phil at the Dili Club for donating Pizzas for our community lunch.
Rotary Club for providing prizes of sports shirts.
Cleaning Up the Street
After the event everyone joined in a street clean up, from the smallest helpers, including young Liam, to the local kids and plenty of adults. The action on the street was fun and furious as all involved got right into cleaning up the discarded plastic and burnt cans. The idea behind the clean ups is to get us thinking: When I have rubbish to get rid of I can DECIDE not to add it to the problem but add it to the solution and PUT IT IN A BIN!

Clean Up The World activities are spreading across the globe and in Dili, despite the problems facing the new nation of Timor L'Este, there are people recognising the importance of waste awareness, of education and action in the community to lead by example. The Clean Up the World activities at Dili International School was sponsored by a number of local businesses and supported by all the parents. The show was held on the last Friday morning of term and all the students presented their own segments before joining together to present the Environment Show and finish up with a beautiful song written by members of the staff in the local language of Tetum.
Senior School
The students of the senior group had created posters as visuals. For the play they were the opening act, they put on a rousing entry and it set the tone for the rest of the performance. "The three high school students were easy to work with, they had a dynamic approach to performing and really made the most of the limited time to create something that had a colourful and happy impact. It is really important how you start a play, especially one with a strong message, you want people to feel confortable and to enjoy the show even if the message is serious. One of the first thing I learned in my teacher training was that people learn best when they are relaxed and laughing..."
Middle School Students
The students of the middle school had been working on ideas for their performance with their teacher Miss Freya.
The major issues they had identified were the dropping of rubbish on the street and burning of rubbish and leaves in piles.
In Dili there are rubbish bins on the street and they are collected and taken to the tip at T-Bar where it is buried in landfill. Not the ideal situation but much much better than having it blowing around as litter or fumes. "All I had to do was take the really good ideas of the students and help them work it into a format that created a strong and simple message that had a repetitive phrase and recognisable 'drama'."
Assistants
Kayti travelled to Dili with her daughter Kepsibel and her friend Nikita Haritos. Nikita and Kepsibel came to assist with the play.
They arrived on the Wednesday and the play was to take place on Friday so there was a lot to be done...."we started in the Lower Primary by singing a song that was given to the play by Edwina Blush. It is a great song and we use it to get the audience singing. It is about love and the reason we want to clean up our planet is: WE LOVE IT!"
